Slighted Sounds in San Diego

I’ve definitely fallen off the blogging wagon in the past few months. Of course this is due largely to the fact that I’m currently writing for half a dozen print publications each month (yes, I’m bragging). Between writing articles, taking (shitty) pictures, and researching for upcoming deadlines I let my baby SiSD go by the wayside. Poor thing.

I’m going to try to get back to it as much as I can- starting by sharing some music previews and news pieces I’ve done elsewhere. And stay tuned this Friday for a (hopefully) weekly feature I hope will keep SiSD in your bookmarks.

Here are some links where you can enjoy recent stuff (or leave hate comments):

Mission Valley recording studio creates space for community of musicians – Mission Valley News – 2/14/14

Hidden in MV is an up-and-coming studio that won’t stay hidden much longer. Phaser Control has drawn in both local and national acts and has earned rave reviews. Click above to see what folks are saying.

Maintaining momentum – Uptown News – 2/28/14

Dead Feather Moon is currently running an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to raise money for their second album. The piece I did was my first full article for Uptown and came out prior to DFM’s campaign launch show (if you missed that you weren’t alone – The Griffin hit capacity before DFM hit the stage- I barely got in). The campaign has less than a week to go so head here and contribute. I recommend the vinyl.

Butcher’s Brewing serves up bands and beers in Santee – La Mesa Courier – 2/24/14

Butcher’s is serving up fine craft beer and killer tunes. What more could you want?

5over2 – Uptown News – 3/14/14

5over2 is a new regular feature in Uptown where fellow music writer Kevin Smead and I take turns picking 5 shows over a 2 week time period – get it? It’s a challenge to look at so many upcoming shows and pick and choose what makes my list. Click above for my latest selections and pick up this week’s new issue for Smead’s upcoming choices.

‘The Den’ dances to a new tune – Uptown News – 3/14/14

I was so happy to find a new spot for live music just minutes from my house (less than a mile walk – FTW!) Sycamore Den has some crazy good cocktails and now added crazy good musical entertainment several nights a week. Click above for more info and upcoming shows.

About Jen Van Tieghem

There aren’t many things I love more than music. While life spins away at a rapid beat I’ve realized it’s important to spend it doing what I love – enjoying music in San Diego. I have a handful of favorite venues, a heart full of favorite bands, and decided to write about it.
