7 Days of Soundsmas in San Diego – Day 5 with Will Lerner of Shake Before Us & Danny and the Tramp

In honor of the holiday season I posed a question to some of my favorite musicians, writers, and fans in the San Diego music scene:

What gift would you like to give to which San Diego musician, or band, and why?

The 7 days of Soundsmas in San Diego continues (click here for past days). Just a few days left… be sure to leave your own gift ideas in the comments below for a chance to win a super special Sounds in San Diego prize.

Will Lerner

Singer for Shake Before Us

12 Days of SoundsWillLerner

If I were to play Saint Nick to friends in the SD music scene, here’s
what I’d bring some of them…

To Brian Reilly and Birdy Bardot, formerly of The New Kinetics (Birdy’s currently in The Rosalyns): A band writing original music that’s as rad as TNK. Brian, play live! Birdy, start singing lead!

To Pat Beers of Schitzophonics, El Vez, Little Richards, and Bowiephonics: A time-freeze machine so he can stop himself in mid freak-out for all the photographers dying to take shots of him.

To Tom Lord of Badabing and too many bands to name: More bands to be in! Hey, the guy obviously isn’t busy enough.

To Mike Stax of The Loons: A mansion on the hill for helping to keep awesome 60s rock alive through his “Ugly Things” magazine.

To Larry Doran of Trouble In The Wind: A pileful of money. He and his wife recently had a beautiful baby girl!

To Jesse Lee Hofbauer of The Paragraphs: A bottle of good bourbon and a pack of smokes so his raspy croon never goes away.

And to my brothers in Shake Before UsJesse Pryor gets a road case for his vintage amp; Fonda gets a fancypants Theremin; and John Falk gets to party with us all year long!

Danny and the Tramp

John, from Danny and the Tramp, would like to get Danny a new toothbrush, because that pretty boy is nothing without his smile. That way, he will be prepared for their next show in which they’re headlining at Soda Bar with Spero and Duping the Public on Friday, January 3rd. Brandon and 4th Guy would like to get every other band in San Diego a matching set of Shake Weights. “Musicians gotta keep in shape!” Plus, 4th Guy has stock in the company…drunken day trading is never a good idea. Happy Holidays folks!

Stay tuned for more mixed bag gifting on Monday from a drummer, a photographer/art teacher, and a keyboardist.

About Jen Van Tieghem

There aren’t many things I love more than music. While life spins away at a rapid beat I’ve realized it’s important to spend it doing what I love – enjoying music in San Diego. I have a handful of favorite venues, a heart full of favorite bands, and decided to write about it.
