22 Day Song Challenge – Day 19: A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty

If you need to catch up on what it is we’re doing here check out the post from Day 1 and meet our panel of rad here. Or click on their names below to see their band page or stalk them on social media. They like that.

Feel free to answer each prompt for yourself in the comments below. We love to hear about as many genres and bands as we can all around town. The only rule is you must use San Diego musicians/bands. To make it extra challenging try not to repeat a band as the days go by. If you want a look at the full list drop me a line. And you can view previous days and compare your answers here.

P.S. Lots of our picks are up for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards so don’t forget to vote for your favorites!

Here we go:

song guilty

Day 19 – A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty

Jen VT: “We Belonged Together” by Oh, Spirit – I feel major guilt pangs when I hear this one because I still haven’t made an Oh, Spirit show and I feel like a failure of grand proportions. This Beatles-esque trippy pop tune is one of many great singles from Lost Ark Studio. I have adored it since first listen about a year ago…  I should be trading in my guilt soon even though when Oh, Spirit plays a stacked lineup with Jesse LaMonaca and The Dime Novels and Mrs. Henry at The Griffin. Yes, yes, and more yes.

Natalie Watson Webber“Miss Bossy” by Gone Baby Gone:  I was gonna pick this song for a previous day in the Challenge but this fit much much better here.  I feel lovely, sexy and empowered when I groove to “Miss Bossy”.  From Sgt. Jay’s flourishing and precise guitar riff introducing this song and Tripp Baggins’ taunting and unrelenting baseline and Joney’s demanding, business-like mastery on drums just the beginning of this song is decidedly lush. Dizzy’s sultry voice, the dominating lyrics and no-holds barred word play makes even a NerdGirl like me believe that we all do indeed have a latent slumbering Sex Goddess within us somewhere awaiting to be awoken.  Why the guilt?  I. Am. So. Not. That. Girl! (But I sure would love to slip her shoes on for an hour or two and see what they feel like! Prrrrrrr) Hey, Dizzy Miss Vizzy what’s your shoe size anyway??? Rick Ostop:  “Summer Came” by The Heavy Guilt* –  You mean Heavy Guilty? This pick solidifies my Heavy Guilt trifecta. I’m past the point of apologizing. The Heavy Guilt strikes again!

Andrea Moore: “Wonder Why” by Blame One* Makes me feel guilty because I don’t give as much support of local hip-hop.

Paul Moffat“Complicate Me” – Plane Without a Pilot – This song is perfect when you just want to cut loose and be a punk rocker.  Plane Without a Pilot isn’t a punk band, but this track is all about angst, you against the world, and how tough life can be.  I feel guilty because that’s not my attitude at all – I don’t have angst and life is as tough as you make it.  But I love this song.

Ryan Miller: “Murdered Love” by P.O.D.*

Eric Blocker“Starfisher” by Neighbors To The North – I went to three Neighbors to the North shows before I actually saw them live. I would arrive right after the show was over. Every time I see those guys around town I feel a little guilty. I shouldn’t, but I do. I know it’ll pass. Other than the fact that it is a bad ass song, for now my pick is Starfisher.

About Jen Van Tieghem

There aren’t many things I love more than music. While life spins away at a rapid beat I’ve realized it’s important to spend it doing what I love – enjoying music in San Diego. I have a handful of favorite venues, a heart full of favorite bands, and decided to write about it.
