CD Release Show for themattsmithneujazztrio for their album “Shorthanded” this Friday, September 6th at Dizzy’s

So, in the interest in full disclosure, I must confess that I comprise one third of this jazz trio. Leader Matt Smith commands a unique feeling from his throne behind the kit. His brand of swinging, indie-pop jazz is showcased in the compositions and arrangements that make up our new album, “Shorthanded.” Completing the sound are bassist Mackenzie Leighton and myself on piano. Mack and I have over a decade’s experience playing with one another in all sorts of settings, and we’ve been working with Matt for quite a while now. It’s been a tremendously fulfilling project, and I’m excited to keep things going!

“Matthew Smith and the New Jazz Trio have released a wonderful album of original tunes, showcasing each other beautifully. Their chops are amazing already. I’m thrilled to add them to the rotation of local jazz artists on my show!”Sue Palmer, pianist and host of San Diego Sessions, KSDS 88.3

“Matt, Ed and Mackenzie sound great on the CD and are an important part of the new
generation of jazz musicians in our community.”Duncan Moore, drummer/educator

Our CD release show is this Friday, September 6th at Dizzy’s in PB (4275 Mission Bay Drive Pacific Beach 92109). We hit at 8pm with a $15 cover, or $10 for students. The CD will also be available at special price.
