I’m really really really excited for this show…. that’s one really for each band.
First of all Nena Anderson is incredible. I haven’t seen her since Old Tiger’s CD release a month ago, which is far too long. Her vocals are stunning and will be showcased with this solo performance. If you haven’t taken a listen, Anderson’s album Beyond The Lights is a great collection of music and has been one of my favorites throughout the year. Crooning songs of heartbreak and longing along with honky-tonk toe-tappers and unique covers – her sets are poised and polished. Anytime I get the chance to I will see Nena.
Since the songstress is playing along with a national headliner I figured I better check them out. Rarely do I like a disc by an artist I’m unfamiliar with on the first listen. So listening to the Whitehorse record, The Fate of the World Depends on this Kiss, the first time had me giddy. The disc opens with “Achilles’ Desire” – hot damn – the gritty rock-folk fusion with both male and female vocals is a damn powerful way to start. 11 other tracks offer everything from slightly twangy numbers “Peterbilt Coalmine” to experimental pop-rock creations, “Jane.” Really looking forward to seeing them live.
So yeah I was already a little excited… and then:
Tori Rogg got added as the opener for this mid-week show. *happy dance* Rogg’s “Roy” has been an obsession of mine since it hit the Lost Ark Studio’s SoundCloud page. Then I got to see Tori in action last month at The Paragraphs CD release. Her unique vocals were even more stellar to hear firsthand. She exudes a fun-loving confidence on stage and her band was on point.
If I’ve got your mouth-watering for good music pretty please be there on Wednesday, November 28 – Soda Bar – 8pm, Tickets are here for $8 ($10 at the door).
