When I previewed the magicalness of March’s music offerings I was beyond stoked for the shows San Diego bands were putting on. Halfway into the month and I could die right now a happy dancing fool, but wait… there are still a shit ton more wonderful shows to come in March. I’ve resorted to eating Top Ramen like a struggling college student to afford show tickets and tall boys of PBR, but damn it is worth it. Here’s another preview of shows coming up in the next couple weeks. Have a block of noodles and get on these, you can thank me later:
3/22 Little Hurricane and The Howls at the Museum of Contemporary Art: I missed little hurricane last time they hit the Casbah because it sold out. Good for them, poor planning on my part. This time I will not be so foolish. Their song “Haunted Heart” is a great jam And after The Howls held their own last week at The Belly Up I’m pumped to see them again. Check out their album and you’ll get a glimpse at what these dudes can do- my favorite tune is “Weight.” Add two great bands with a visit to a chic art museum, I might get cooler just by attending this. Show starts at 7pm, tickets are $10.
3/24 The Mother Hips, Dead Feather Moon, and Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers: Dead Feather Moon puts on great live shows. I’ve said it again and again. Listen to “Dark Horse” to get a feel for their rich, rocking sound and “Everything I Haven’t Said” for the softer, soulful side of these awesome guys. I’m just diving into the other bands and so far so good. Sounds like it’ll be a good ol’ fashion rock show with some southern style and California charm. Or something. Doors at 7pm, tickets are $18.
3/29 Homegrown featuring Ezekiel Jay and more at The Go Lounge): A personal friend of mine, Ezekiel is launching his solo career. His album, “Activity,” is fun and fresh and features lots of great San Diego talents including bassist Jason Littlefield of The Heavy Guilt. Check out Zeke’s tunes here – my personal fave is “Hummingbirds.” Music starts at 7pm, FREE!
3/30 Hills Like Elephants, The Heavy Guilt, The Black Sands, and Sundrop Electrip at Soda Bar: I never miss the Guilt, barring zombie apocalypse or surge in Ramen prices I’ll always be there dancing like a fool. I’ve been dying to see The Black Sands and always excited for a stacked bill. Doors at 8pm, tickets are $8.
3/31 The Nervous Wreckords, Gram Rabbit, and Low Volts at The Casbah: Truth be told I am triple amped for this show. First off TNW are made of rad and Brian Karscig hugged me once while I mispronounced the name of my own website, secondly I get to go for FREE because I named Mr. Karscig’s new guitar in a random Facebook promotion (hot damn), and thirdly last week Low Volts got added to the bill and the one-man band is not only killer but easy on the eyes as well. Just sayin’ Doors at 8:30, tickets are $10 for you (free for me and my partner in crime, hehe.)
