Chris Cantore Exits KPRi, Moves to UT San Diego

If you’ve been listening to radio in San Diego for any of the last 15+ years you probably know Chris Cantore. He’s been one of my favorite radio personalities for years and after his departure from 91X (after 11 freakin’ years) there was pretty much crap on SD morning radio. He’s the quintessential San Diego radio guy: laid-back, knowledgeable and personable. When he re-emerged on KPRi I was stoked…but now the Cantore roller coaster is in a free fall again.

On Friday he tweeted the following and, of course, a bunch of fans (myself included) were left to furrow our brows:

And after speculation about a return to 91X or, better yet, a move to 94.9’s now vacant morning slot, the news is in…. *insert drum roll or dramatic pause, take your pick*

According to SDRadio.net:

Chris Cantore is going to UT San Diego….

Say what? The newspaper is apparently looking to “expand in the digital age.” With years of multimedia experience Cantore will surely bring a fresh perspective to the traditional paper. I, for one, will be interested to see what his role ends up being.

UPDATED 3/14 2:40pm: As of next week Chris Cantore will be the Director of Lifestyle + Entertainment for UT San Diego and DiscoverSD read about here in his own words.

About Jen Van Tieghem

There aren’t many things I love more than music. While life spins away at a rapid beat I’ve realized it’s important to spend it doing what I love – enjoying music in San Diego. I have a handful of favorite venues, a heart full of favorite bands, and decided to write about it.
