Sometimes I fall in love at first listen- this is one of those times. Maybe it’s because I had imbibed several tasty beers or because I was doing it as part of my “job” – probably both. When this song came on at the beer bar in my neighborhood I had an instantaneous “hell yeah” feeling… please enjoy:
“Sail” by AWOLNATION: I wouldn’t normally say I’m a fan of something deemed “electronic rock” but then again I get sick as anyone of labels on music or otherwise. This is a good pump-you-up kind of jam. It starts a little soft and ramps up into an explosion of sonic goodness upon the first “sail!” And after wailing lyrics like “maybe I should kill myself” it randomly comes up with some “la la la”s and a piano solo. Good stuff in my book. Apparently it came out last year, so I’m late to the party as usual. It’s a song I can listen to over and over while I’m getting ready to go out or just need energy to finish a long work day… or on a Friday, both.
Summation of Sounds
The last couple weeks have been pretty bitchen if I do say so myself. I’ve connected with some really great folks, something that happens more and more to me these days. My new definition of happiness is how long my list of “favorite people” is… and it’s growing by leaps and bounds. Here are a few links I’d like to share because these people are on my list. For all the feedback and encouragement I’ve gotten from them this is just a small way I can say “thank you.” Consider this a virtual hug.
Three B Zine: This bad ass site covers bikes, bands, and brews. As I am a dunce at one one of these and an obsessive novice at the other two, this site introduces me to new goodies regularly. Interviews, informational posts, all kinds of great stuff to keep up with. Really glad to “know” these guys.
The Lost Ark Studio: Every Thursday these guys put out a new tune recorded at their digs. Some mind-blowing stuff has been hitting my Facebook timeline and I implore y’all not to miss out. Like ’em here! They are donating a $1 for every “like” to an incredible music-related cause called Sweet Relief which “provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.” Great music, great cause, and great guys- what more could you want?
Photos by Lisa Guilin: This is just one album of photos by my friend Lisa. She did an incredible job snapping shots at one of the best rock shows I’ve seen this year and everything else I’ve seen of hers is stunning. As soon as she gets a website going (hint, hint) I’ll share that as well.
