I’ve been on an Iron and Wine kick lately, although not for the first time. It seems to happen when my life is most chaotic, the soft melodies and acoustic strummings lend themselves to a feeling of calm within that lacks outwardly. With such a huge catalog of music it’s hard to pick just one song to obsess over… but this one is it, for this week anyways.
“The Trapeze Swinger” by Iron and Wine: Sang like a whispered prayer, this song tenderly touches my heart strings. Sam Beam’s lyrics always paint beautiful imagery and I find my mind wandering between the lines and creating a picture in my mind of what his songs might look like on a canvas. This is one of his longer tunes and I love every second of it. Has the phrase “fuck the man” ever sounded so lovely? The song meanders on with soft vocals and a vivid masterpiece is made. I seriously love this song.
