In April I Will Dance Like A Fool. Natch.

Sometimes my anticipation for shows rivals my fervent excitement at said shows. We all need things that makes us happy and listening to music is pretty much my greatest joy. Well that, and burritos, and beer, and my nephews. Anyhow… here’s some of what April has got to offer. Mark your calendars, write it on your forehead, keep checking my Schedule of Sounds, whatever you gotta do to make sure you don’t miss how shit-shaking good this month’s music is gonna be.

I'm taking lessons from this guy. Get low, Larry, get low.

4/3 Modern Heist and Kellen & Me at The Tin Can Alehouse – One of the peeps in Modern Heist hit me up and invited me to their show. I always do my best to make it out in these situations. Gave their stuff a few listens, sounds good, been meaning to make it to Tin Can… win win, no?

4/7 CityBeat Festival of Beers featuring Nico Vega, The Heavy Guilt, and Hyena outside the Lafayette Hotel – Beer and bands? Sign me up. THG have a piece of my heart and I’m excited to check out the other bands. Also I spent NYE at The Lafayette rocking the fuck out to the The Heavy Guilt and others. This hip hotel is gonna be the back drop for the killer event and also rooms are super affordable (especially when you grab a handful of drunk friends to split the cost). So after I dance in the streets I’ll shake my happy ass right to my room with my partners in crime. Be advised.

4/18 Band of Skulls and We Are Augustines at The Griffin – So you’re shitting me right? Band of Skulls are rad. I saw them at Independence Jam and was swept up by the coolness of their sound. Both vocalists just kill it. And The Griffin is a super enjoyable, small venue. Not sure how this equation for greatness happened but I ain’t complaining. I bought a solo ticket because it’s a Wednesday and my friends have these things called “responsibilities.” *shrug* But I am NOT missing this one.

4/27 Low Volts at The Riviera Supper ClubStumbling Walking distance from my house- check. One of San Diego’s finest musicians (and I mean that in more ways than one)- check. Friday night- check. Oh man this is gonna start my weekend right… and that’s just the beginning of this one…

4/28 The White Buffalo w/ Dead Feather Moon at The Belly Up TavernSomeone told me to listen to The White Buffalo and that his voice would give me chills. This assertion was correct. And now he’s headlining with some of my favorite locals opening at one of my favorite venues. Well isn’t that just a super fucking awesome coincidence!? Don’t miss this.

4/29 ArtWalk featuring Jesse LaMonaca and the Dime Novels, The Black Sands, The Heavy Guilt, and tons more on the streets of Little Italy FREE – Finally I will finish out the month in one of San Diego’s cutest neighborhoods for an annual event that should not be ignored. Jess LaMonaca’s voice has an old-school soul to it and I’m really excited to see him live. More terrific acts, artsy shit, yup I’m there.

What am I missing in April’s epic foolishness? Clue me in y’all.

About Jen Van Tieghem

There aren’t many things I love more than music. While life spins away at a rapid beat I’ve realized it’s important to spend it doing what I love – enjoying music in San Diego. I have a handful of favorite venues, a heart full of favorite bands, and decided to write about it.
